What's Cooking with Green Kitchen Smoothies

Food bloggers David Frenkiel and Luise Vindahl share smoothie recipes, as well as breakfast ideas, energizers, desserts, and more in this collection of 50 new and uncommon beverages.

Recipes for Green Bowl, Sleeping-in Smoothie, Green Stamina Workout, the Warm Smoothie, and Apple Pie in a Glass are included along with Mocha Morning Bozz, Banana Snickers Shake, and an Avocado, Mango and Lime Smoothie. There are green smoothie options, fruit-only smoothies, nut butter based smoothies, and a variety of non-smoothie recipes as well. Many of the recipes are vegan and most are naturally sweetened with fruit.

Each recipe includes a photograph displaying the finished product. Introductory chapters outline the making of a good smoothie, explain what tools and ingredients to stock up on, and provide a variety of tips and tricks like freezing juices and nut milks rather than using ice.

A Fuel Economy Run.

from the Outrider Reading Group:

"Any race longer than 15 miles is a fuel economy run. You have got to think, the whole way, about being as gentle on the pedal as possible. When talking about fuel supplies, I use the analogy of a fuel tank which is being supplied by a trickle of fuel from the mobilization of fat. There is some evidence that this fat mobilization does not really get going at its maximum level at the start, so this is another reason for starting at a level pace." -

Exploring the Nature of... Tunas and Billfishes of the World.

Tunas and billfishes are peak predators of the oceans. Their speed, grace, unique physiology, and diversity makes them important both ecologically and socioeconomically. Vital sources of food and income for many maritime nations, these exhilarating fishes are also highly desired and avidly sought by big game fishers across the globe.

This volume focuses on three families of fishes: Scombridae, the mackerels and tunas; Istiophoridae, sailfish and marlins; and Xiphiidae, the Swordfish. The 61 in-depth species accounts describe these fish and their habitats, summarize their diet and reproduction, analyze current fisheries, and evaluate their conservation status.

Illustrated with full-color, scientifically accurate illustrations by Val Kells, along with range maps for each species, this book is an essential reference on these majestic inhabitants of the sea.
